About

Thomas McNally is an artist and writer. Originally from County Laois in the Irish midlands, he currently lives in Dublin. He is the illustrator of two books based on the fables in James Joyce’s Finnegans Wake, and both are published by the Lilliput Press. He is also the author of a book on the philosophy of Ludwig Wittgenstein, published by Cambridge University Press, as well as numerous articles that have appeared in international peer-reviewed journals.

After many years of studying and working as an academic philosopher, Thomas changed careers to focus exclusively on art, writing, and raising his two sons. He holds philosophy degrees from University College Dublin (M.Litt.), Cambridge University (M.Phil.), and Trinity College Dublin (Ph.D.). In 2021, in line with his career change, he completed a postgraduate certificate in digital modelling and sculpting at the Dun Laoghaire Institute of Art, Design, and Technology. In recent years, his visual art has incorporated the use of 3D and 2D digital art software, such as ZBrush, while continuing to rely heavily on traditional media.
